Web Edition

How Balance Club / Culture Festival – Web Edtion works: We publish the contributions according to ⤵︎ the timetable on this website.
From 20–24 May, our website will feature DJ sets, lectures, multimedia texts, workshops, artist talks, audio-visual works and artistic fashion-pieces. As a grand finale, we will release our Balance-Sampler “Various Artists – Tender Squads” on festival Sunday and, admittedly, fulfill our own long standing wish. The Balance Club / Culture Festival sees itself as an interface between club culture and social critique. All contributions of the festival “Tender Squads” address the question which constellations and alliances can be imagined for the emancipatory potential of a different world to unfold? Which alliances do we want to form and where do we have to insist on difference for our alternatives to be viable? What form of (feminist) care and support do we need for each other right now? Together with you we want to find out, more urgently than ever, how we can maximally destabilize structural inequalities.

FemmeFitness; Dance as decolonial and feminist practice
Creating Safer Spaces for Empowerment & Navigating White Institutions.
(Video available only until June 6th!)

For People of Colour and people from the Global South, the h(is)tories of so many dances are rooted in practices that are political, communal, spiritual, painful, angry, empowering. So often they have been more than a form of entertainment – they are a necessity and a means to resist, and this is still the case for many people today. But what happens when the narratives of pain and liberation are lost in the replication of practices in white western and colonial contexts such as Germany? How do we see silencing in the realm of artistic and cultural institutions? What strategies can we find to navigate institutions and find truly empowering forms of expression? By merging physical movement, sweating, loud music and discussion, FemmeFitness is a practice that looks to reframe discussions and reclaim spaces. In this online workshop we will consider the potentials of decolonial feminism within institutions, what issues arise and then go on to enjoy the endorphins and energy that our bodies release when dancing.

❤ Keep in mind this is a safe(r) space for femmes and queer people, particularly of colour, so their needs, voices and feels will be prioritised. In this workshop I will be going into the frameworks of what safe(r) spaces mean and how we all can work to create them. ❤
